I’ve spent around 30 years building products, services, business units and businesses, finding opportunities, solving difficult problems, taking ideas to market and working out how to make them commercially successful.

That experience shapes how I approach systems today. I look at a business as a whole: how it makes money, how work gets done, where information gets lost, what consumes unnecessary time and what is constraining growth. The system is there to improve those things.

That is why I founded Hatton Locks.

We start by understanding what you are trying to achieve and how your business actually works. From there, we design and implement systems that support it, connecting processes, information and people in ways that make the business easier to run and better able to grow.

When you work with Hatton Locks, you are working with someone who has spent decades on both sides of these decisions: building what customers buy and building the organisations that have to deliver it.

Why Hatton Locks?

Locks are a small part of a canal system, but without them nothing works. They manage height, prevent water loss, and keep the water moving just enough to sustain life, the birds, the fish, the entire ecosystem depends on them. Remove the locks and the canal becomes stagnant, then toxic, then dry in sections, breaking the route and making the canals ineffective as a means of transport.

We named ourselves after that idea. The systems and processes we put in place, IT and operational, are designed to be that kind of component in your business. Deliberate, strategic and quietly critical. Not the most visible part, but systems that hold everything together and keep everything flowing.
